Creating Connection
One Gathering at a Time
As June came to a close, so too did another meaningful season of two of Park Memorial's monthly community grief programs: Men's Grief Support and Art for the Grieving Heart.
While the activities may have looked different, both evenings shared the same purpose: to create a space where people could gather, connect, remember, and discover that they do not have to carry grief alone.

Men's Grief Support: Sharing More Than a Meal
There's something uniquely comforting about preparing food together. For our final Men's Grief Support gathering before the summer break, the evening began not around a table, but in the kitchen.
Together, the men seasoned and breaded pork tenderloin skewers, prepared a baked potato bar complete with all the toppings, and shared a Caesar salad they had assembled themselves.
It wasn't simply about making dinner. It was about working side by side. About conversation that comes more naturally when hands are busy. About laughter between recipes, quiet moments while preparing food, and the simple reminder that healing often happens in ordinary moments shared with others.
When the meal was ready, everyone sat down together to enjoy what they had created—a fitting reflection of the support they have built together throughout the season.

Art for the Grieving Heart: Threads of Connection
Our final Art for the Grieving Heart gathering invited participants to create personalized fabric bracelets: small keepsakes that carried far more than beads and fabric.
The evening's theme, Threads of Connection, explored the enduring bonds we continue to share with those we love. Each bracelet became uniquely personal. Some featured names. Others held meaningful words or nicknames. Some included favourite colours or tiny reminders of a loved one's personality. Each one told a story.
Throughout the evening, guests reflected on the memories, traditions, and qualities that remain woven into their lives long after loss.
To honour the end of our season together, both events concluded with a beautiful remembrance ceremony.
Guests gathered around a tablescape of branches, fresh greenery, daisies, and individually personalized memorial candles, each bearing the name of someone deeply loved and deeply missed.
Together, they shared a quiet moment of reflection before extinguishing their candles in unison—not as a symbol of an ending, but as a reminder that while a flame may go out, love and memory continue to shine.
One of the reflections shared during the ceremony captured the spirit of the evening perfectly:
"Love leaves its mark. Memory leaves its light. And those we love remain woven into our lives forever."
Looking Ahead
Although our monthly gatherings now pause for the summer, support doesn't.
Throughout July and August, we'll continue walking alongside our community through our Grief Walks — offering an opportunity to connect with others, spend time in nature, and discover that healing doesn't always happen sitting across from someone. Sometimes it begins simply by walking together.
When September arrives, we'll be honoured to welcome everyone back for another season of Men's Grief Support and Art for the Grieving Heart. We'll also be introducing a new monthly program called Soft Landings — a gentle, welcoming space designed specifically for those navigating the first days and weeks following the death of someone they love.

Wherever you find yourself on your grief journey, we hope you'll know there is always a place for you here. We look forward to continuing to walk alongside you in the months ahead.
