Join Us to Learn How to Balance Life, Loss & Chaos

You are a woman constantly juggling it all: family life, kids’ activities, your relationships, career, and social life. There is always something or someone needing more time from you, and someone always ends up getting less of your time than they need and deserve. The kitchen is a mess, your kiddo is wearing a less-than-clean jersey to soccer, and you have put off that discovery meeting with your newest hire for the third time. How do other women do it?

And then … someone you love dies, and suddenly you are expected to balance it all AND grieve! This grief is foreign to you; it brings on brain fog, diminished patience, erratic emotions out of the blue, anger, and tears. Balance seems to exist only in a parallel universe. You are exhausted, diminished, and feel all alone. But you aren’t alone. Friday May 10th is your day to find your way, surrounded by a community of other women who just ‘get it’.

What to Expect

The Strength Within is a day for you to find your way, enmeshed in a community of women who are also journeying through grief while trying to keep their personal and professional lives in fluid motion.

If you value personal development and education with a healthy respect for time, integrity, and a side of laughter and fun despite life’s obstacles, this day is for you!

Our team has carefully orchestrated a day filled with practical tips and tools to lift and support you as you grieve and strive for balance, presented by a team of keynote speakers, breakout session facilitators, and some other surprises to make the day meaningful and lastingly impactful. We end the day with a Connections Mixer where you can mingle with your fellow guests and your facilitators while enjoying a glass of wine and some yummy snacks, and EVERY guest is a VIP.

Testimonials from other Park Memorial grief support events participants:

"I really find value in the other people who are sharing their stories, or their memories. Grief comes from so many different sources: loss of a job, death of a family member, death of a pet. It is just sharing those stories which adds so much value and importance."

Karen Smith

"Great gathering place, good food, kind and caring people that facilitate and attend. Warm and welcoming atmosphere."

Meryl Wilson

"A moment of peace to revive in your own comfort with those around you who feel the pain for different reasons but are still there. The event helps to unlock emotions you may hide from day in and day out."

FAQs - The Strength Within: Balancing Life, Loss & Chaos

  • My family has never had a funeral at Park Memorial Funeral Home, can I still attend TSW?

Yes, of course! Our events are open to our community-at-large, no matter if your family has used our services or not.

  • I live outside of Edmonton, can I still attend TSW?

Yes, of course! There is a ticket package that includes a one-night stay if you so choose.

  • I don’t want to go alone, can I bring my friend/family member/partner?

Of course! Please bring someone for support if you need it or bring someone else who could benefit from the day. Please be advised that each attendee needs to purchase a ticket and register.

  • I am male, but I want to go with my wife/sister/friend to support her, is that permitted?

Of course! Men are most definitely welcome to accompany their special person, although the day is primarily geared toward women and many of their specific life and loss challenges. Please be advised that each attendee needs to purchase a ticket and register.

  • I am male, but I really need grief support, can I attend TSW?

Everyone is welcome to attend TSW, but the event has been designed to specifically support and be considerate of women who are balancing their grief along with the demands of their professional lives, families, and relationships.

We do have a dedicated Men’s Grief Support group that meets monthly. We invite you to visit www.parkmemorial.com/mgs.

LEARN MORE ABOUT OUR MEN'S GRIEF SUPPORT EVENT
  • Why does this event cost money to attend?

The Strength Within is NOT a for-profit event. The ticket price only serves to help cover a portion of the costs required to put on the event. Park Memorial does put on other low-cost and free events with the goal of making grief support events available to as many people as possible.

  • I can’t afford this, but I really need grief support, what should I do?

The Strength Within may not be the perfect event for everyone, and that’s okay.

Park Memorial does host a monthly grief support group called Art for the Grieving Heart. Registration costs just $20 to attend (that price covers the cost of the materials which Park Memorial supplies for attendees to do the craft activity that is planned for the night).

We intend to present even more grief support events in the future, some of which we hope to be able to offer for free, so please watch for announcements on our website. Our monthly men’s grief support event is free to attend.

If you think you may be having a mental health crisis or emergency, please call the mental health helpline at 1-877-303-2642.

  • I don’t have a credit card, how can I pay?

You must have a Visa Debit or a credit card to purchase your ticket online.

If you are having difficulty with online registration, please contact our PR Coordinator, Kristi Hammond, who will be glad to assist you!

    780-426-0050.

  • I wanted to go to Finding Grace in Grief last year, but this is something totally different, and the sessions I wanted to attend are no longer being offered. How come it changed?

You’re right, The Strength Within is going to be totally different from Finding Grace in Grief!

Park Memorial has a reputation for providing excellent funeral services for families of all denominations, but we never would have earned that reputation if we operated using a “one-service-suits-all” method. The services we provide are customized to meet each families’ unique needs, and we feel that our approach to community support should follow this same strategy. We are confident that this focused and intentional approach will result in more valuable and effective care for those who need it.

If this event is not for you, then we hope the next one will be!

If the positive side of social media has taught us anything, it’s that something pretty special happens when people connect through shared experiences. Whether they connect through a passion for Disney vacations, are avid gardeners, or – yes – even connect because of shared loss and grief – there is power in that shared connection.
