Park Memorial Livestream How-To's

Each family we serve has the choice to offer their friends and family the ability to virtually attend their loved one’s farewell ceremony via livestream.


Not every family chooses to do so.

All Park Memorial livestreams are hosted on YouTube.com. In order to watch a livestream ceremony, you will need the unique link that is created for each service. Some families opt to place the link in their loved one’s Book of Memories personal web page hosted on our website to make it easily accessible. You can check to see if this is the case for the ceremony that you would like to watch by visiting www.parkmemorial.com and clicking on the ‘Obituaries’ link. If you are using a mobile device, you must click on the ‘menu’ bar at the top right, in order to access the “Obituaries” link.   

 

Once you are into the Obituaries page, you will search for your loved one by their first and last name. When you see the appropriate name and/or photo, click on it, and their Book of Memories will open. 

 

The Book of Memories is where you will see a list of tabbed menu items on the left where you may leave condolences*, share stories and memories of your loved one, and even upload photos for friends and family to see and enjoy.

If the family has opted to make the livestream link available for the ceremony, you will see a menu tab item named ‘Webcasting’. If you are using a mobile device, you will need to click on the “+” button to the right of the word “Menu” in order to access the drop-down menu where you can access the “Webcasting” link. When you click the Webcasting button, you will be taken directly to the farewell ceremony on YouTube. If the ceremony has not started yet, you will see a countdown timer. For example: “This live event will begin in 45 minutes.” 

 

If the ceremony is in progress, you will be able to join live and watch along in real time, or you can re-start at the beginning of the ceremony. Once the ceremony has ended, you will be able to view it as a replay. If the family has opted not to share the link publicly on our website, as noted above, you will need to reach out to the family directly for access to the video. Due to privacy laws, our staff team is unable to disclose this information.

*Please note that, should you choose to share a condolence on your loved one’s Book of Memories, the family will receive a keepsake copy of that condolence which can be inserted into the memorial book chosen for their loved one’s farewell ceremony. 

Troubleshooting:

Our Park Memorial technical team does everything in our power to ensure the best quality of livestream service, however, there are times when the internet connection at the ceremony venue might be poor, causing buffering / disruption / unsuccessful feed. As well, our team are funeral professionals, without training in the specialization of videography, which makes these livestream services also subject to human error.

We give every effort to ensure the best outcome for the livestream service, but cannot always guarantee 100% success. We offer our sincere apologies if your loved one's farewell service is impacted in this way.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - LIVESTREAMING

  • There is a mistake with the spelling of the deceased’s name or the dates on the thumbnail on YouTube. How can I fix this?

    We make every effort to avoid this circumstance, however should this be the case, this can easily be corrected by emailing correct information to it@parkmemorial.com, or by calling 780-426-0050.

  • The thumbnail on my loved one’s YouTube page isn’t showing a photo of my loved one. Why not?

    There is often a delay in getting photos and details from the family of the deceased. The photo placeholder is changed to reflect your loved one’s information as this information is approved and made available by the family, and before the service begins.

  • The livestream pauses repeatedly and/or stalls. Why is this happening?

    This is buffering, either due to a very weak wi-fi connection at the ceremony venue or poor reception from where you are accessing it. If the buffering is due to our connection at the venue, please rest assured that the replay will not buffer. If the buffering is due to poor signal strength where you are accessing from, you will need to access a stronger wi-fi network to watch without buffering. The option of pausing the video for a few minutes to allow the video to catch up may be a temporary solution.

  • The link does not work. How can I view the ceremony?

    If the link does not take you directly to YouTube and your loved one’s page, or the video will not play, this is usually due to firewalls or permissions. If you are attending via your workplace network / computer, there is likely a firewall installed to restrict access to certain websites. Try switching to a different device / network. If you are accessing from your tablet, check to see if you have installed permission restrictions for your children to limit what they can access while online. You may need to change these permissions in order to watch the livestream ceremony. 

  • The audio is very quiet. How can I make it louder?

    Occasionally there will be a clergy member / celebrant / emcee who chooses not to wear a microphone, or a singer / speaker / eulogist who speaks softly or doesn’t get close enough to the microphone. Unfortunately, these are circumstances beyond our control.  Please try adjusting the volume on the device. If you are on a computer, you can also adjust the volume on the video player as well.

  • The wind is very loud during the graveside service and it is hard to hear what is being said. Can that be fixed?

    As in the scenario above, we do not have training or professional audio / video equipment in order to edit out all the background noise. Unfortunately, we are at the mercy of whatever weather presents or other nearby noises for our graveside ceremony livestreams.

  • Why is there a screen that says, ‘Please stand by for continuance of service’?

    This screen lets you know that the farewell ceremony will be followed by either a graveside service or a mausoleum ceremony. There can be significant time delays between the two, depending on the distance that the procession of vehicles needs to travel in order to reach the cemetery / mausoleum.

  • I can’t hear some of the music played in my loved one’s ceremony?

    YouTube automatically flags some copywritten content and will restrict or remove the entire video until Park Memorial mutes the offending audio. The songs will be heard on the ‘live’ livestream, but may be blocked on the replay. This is a YouTube policy that is beyond the control of Park Memorial.
