A Death Has Occurred
We are here to serve you and your family - 24/7/365
We know that it’s a difficult call to make.
When you call Park Memorial, you can expect to be treated with compassion, care, and the highest of professionalism. Due to the urgent nature of calling us after a loved one has died, there is no email form for this specific communication. When you place this call, we will ask all of the questions that allow our team to begin caring for your loved one and your family in a timely way.
All personal information will remain confidential in accordance with our privacy policy.
We are very sorry for your loss.
Let us help you in these moments of pain.
It doesn't seem to matter how prepared we are — or aren't — a loved one's death often leaves us feeling numb and in shock. If you're the person responsible for making the funeral arrangements or executing the will, shock and grief can be immobilizing. Even simple decisions can be overwhelming. You do not have to carry this burden alone.
Our team of funeral professionals is trained to help make this process as smooth as possible, while understanding that nothing about this process is easy.
In addition to providing compassionate care to the bereaved, we are trained to help families care for the many details and decisions that follow the death of a loved one:
• Transportation of your loved one into our care
• Obtaining a death certificate
• Helping you to select a casket, cremation container, urn, burial or urn vault, monument, and more
• Helping to arrange the funeral, memorial and/or burial service
• Coordinating with AISH or Alberta Human Services for financial assistance for those who qualify
• Helping to arrange for clergy or celebrant, floral arrangements, reception menu, funeral stationery, livestreaming, musicians, etc.
• Preparing and submitting the obituary
• On site assistance at the funeral or memorial assistance to ensure that all arrangements made are carried out to the highest level of care
• Providing information about our aftercare resources and grief support events
If your loved one was employed, you will need to call his or her employer immediately. Not only is it important to let the employer know that their employee has passed away, it is equally important that you are made aware of any continuum of income that you can depend upon. If the employer has a Human Resources Manager, they will be the best person to speak with. If not, your loved one’s direct supervisor or manager is the best place to start. Ask about your loved one’s benefits and any pay due, including vacation or sick time, disability income, etc. Ask if you or other dependents are still eligible for benefit coverage through the company, and for what period of time. Ask whether there is a life insurance policy through the employer, who the named beneficiary is on the policy, and how to file a claim.
If your loved one had a life insurance policy, you will want to make contact with the agent / company to ask how to file a claim. Usually the beneficiary (or the beneficiary's guardian, if a minor) must complete the claim forms and related paperwork, and your funeral director can assist with this. Your agent will be able to provide you with a claimant form and list of required documents; this list and the process will vary between insurers. Remember to ask about payment options, as the insurer may have several options to choose from.
