Comfort, Warmth & Care: Inside Our Recent Park Memorial Renovations

Park Memorial • March 30, 2026

At Park Memorial, we believe the spaces where families gather to remember and honour a loved one should feel welcoming, comfortable, and cared for — in every season.

Over the past year, we’ve been quietly working on a series of renovations and upgrades throughout our Edmonton facility. Some are immediately noticeable, and others are the kind of improvements you may not see right away — but you will absolutely feel.

Not every renovation is meant to look different. Some renovations are meant to serve families better: improving warmth, comfort, accessibility, and the behind-the-scenes capacity that allows us to support families with care and timeliness.

We’re honoured to share a few highlights of what’s been updated.

A Refreshed Lobby — Warmth from the Moment You Arrive

Our lobby is often the very first space families step into — a place to pause, gather, and take a breath. This area received a noticeable refresh, designed to feel warm and grounding from the moment you enter.

One of the most meaningful additions is our beautiful new horizontal fireplace feature, which now serves as a comforting focal point - visible from many areas in the lobby and throughout the surrounding spaces. It adds a sense of warmth, calm, and welcome — a gentle presence that fits the purpose of this building.

The Chapel — The Same Sacred Space, Even More Comfortable

For many families, the chapel is the heart of Park Memorial. It’s a space for ceremony, reflection, and remembering — and we wanted to preserve its familiar feel while improving comfort and function.

Our chapel updates included:

• Brand new flooring

• Brand new pew seating

• Window replacement throughout (upgrading from single-pane to triple-pane)

• New sound system and livestream camera

While the chapel may look very similar to many who have been here before, these upgrades make a significant difference in the experience: the space is quieter, warmer, and more comfortable — especially during Alberta winters.

Families may not immediately notice the difference visually, but they will feel the difference in the overall warmth, comfort, and atmosphere.

Just off the chapel, our family room also received a full refresh, including updated furniture and fixtures selected with comfort and calm in mind. This space is designed as a quiet place for families to gather privately — whether that means taking a breath before a service begins, stepping away for a moment of reflection, or simply being together in a quieter setting. With these updates, the family room now feels even more welcoming, offering a warm and supportive environment during some of life’s most difficult moments.

Updated Parlours & Mezzanine — Comfort That Supports Connection

Our parlours are where families spend meaningful time: sharing stories, receiving visitors, gathering close, and holding space for one another.

To support that experience, several areas received updates including:

• New carpet

• Updated furniture

• A refreshed mezzanine level

• New lighting

While these updates may seem simple on the surface, each one was made with the experience of families in mind. These changes weren’t about trending design — they were about creating surroundings that feel soft, calm, and comfortable, so families can focus on what truly matters.

Improving Capacity Behind the Scenes — Serving Families More Efficiently

Some of our most important renovations weren’t “front-facing” at all — but they have a direct impact on how we care for families.

An Additional Crematorium

We have added one more crematorium, which significantly improves our ability to serve families in a timely manner. This added capacity allows us to care for families more promptly, helping reduce wait times during an already difficult period. It gives us greater flexibility, helps reduce delays, and supports our commitment to care that is both compassionate and efficient. With on-site cremation, families can have peace of mind knowing their loved one never leaves our care.

Expanded Staff Spaces

We also added one additional office for staff on the mezzanine level and expanded our control office on the main lobby level. These staff-focused improvements strengthen our behind-the-scenes support systems and allow our team to serve families with greater coordination, comfort, and care.

Throughout these updates, we were equally mindful of preserving the character and history that have shaped Park Memorial as a third-generation, family-owned funeral home serving our community for over 80 years.

Not every renovation is meant to look different — some are meant to feel different.

To our community: none of us ever want to need a funeral home — but if you do, we hope you feel the intention behind every improvement we’ve made: to offer a space that holds you with dignity, comfort, and care. To learn more about Park Memorial, visit our "About Us" page.

With care,

Last night, our Park Memorial team gathered for a blood donor evening. Nine team members rolled up their sleeves — including three first-time donors — and gave something simple, yet profoundly powerful: time, compassion, and a small donation that has the potential to save lives.

It comes from a place of love. A desire to honour a wish, to keep things simple, to spare people the formality of a gathering they might not have wanted. And that impulse is not wrong. But there is something important that often goes unconsidered in that decision.

At Park Memorial, we often meet families at one of the most emotional moments of their lives. And while we are honoured to walk alongside them in their grief, there is one sentence we hear far too often.

The Christmas season is often filled with sound: the laughter of family gathered close, the hum of familiar carols, the gentle rustle of wrapping paper and tradition.

Grief has no timeline, no rulebook, and no “right way” to move through it. At Park Memorial, our monthly grief-support programs — Art for the Grieving Heart and Men’s Grief Support* — were created to offer a safe, welcoming space for anyone navigating loss.

August 30th was marked as National Grief Awareness Day, and while we missed the official calendar date, we reflect on this truth: grief doesn’t live on a calendar. It doesn’t circle one day in August or only come up during anniversaries and holidays.

Last night, under the golden light of the soft evening sun, we gathered for the first in our summer series of Grief Walks—gentle steps taken in the company of others, held by nature, memory, and quiet connection.
