When Sound Becomes Memory
A Christmas Remembrance Service

The Christmas season is often filled with sound — the laughter of family gathered close, the hum of familiar carols, the gentle rustle of wrapping paper and tradition.
But for many, this season also carries another sound — the quiet left behind by someone deeply loved and dearly missed.
At Park Memorial’s Christmas Remembrance Service: The Sounds of Christmas, we gathered in that tender space between sound and silence. Together, we paused — not to rush grief away, but to honour it, to sit with it, and to remember.
From the moment guests entered the chapel, the atmosphere was intentionally calm and reflective. Soft candlelight, evergreen boughs, and seasonal florals created a setting that felt warm, welcoming, and grounded — a place where memories could safely surface.
Music played a central role throughout the service. Each piece was chosen not for performance, but for presence — melodies that gently held the room and allowed hearts to open. The music carried emotion when words felt heavy, offering comfort without expectation, thanks to musicians David Moret and Ella Zenari.
The spoken reflections of Connie Kobylko invited guests to listen differently this Christmas — not only with their ears, but with their hearts. She reminded us that sound becomes memory, and memory becomes love that continues to echo, even in absence.
“Thank you for hosting this; I feel better for having been here.”
“This was exactly what I needed.”
“Thank you for creating something so beautiful and gentle. I had no idea that you offered so much to the community!”
These were just a few of the sentiments shared by guests afterward — quiet confirmations that gathering together matters, especially during the holidays.
Grief does not disappear at Christmas, and it does not follow a schedule. Our hope with this service was never to remove sorrow, but to soften the season — to remind those who are grieving that they are not alone, and that remembrance can coexist with warmth, music, and love.
For those who were unable to attend in person, we invite you to watch the full service below. Whether viewed alone or shared with family, we hope it offers a moment of peace, reflection, and connection.

A Reminder That You Don’t Have to Walk This Season Alone
Grief does not end when the funeral service does — and support shouldn’t either.
At Park Memorial, we offer monthly grief support gatherings designed to meet people where they are, in ways that feel gentle, accessible, and human. From creative workshops and facilitated conversations to nature-based gatherings and educational events, our programs are open to anyone in our community who is grieving — regardless of when or how loss occurred.
Whether you are newly grieving or carrying loss from years past, you are welcome.

As the Christmas season continues, may you find comfort in the sounds that carry memory — a favourite song, a familiar voice, a quiet moment of stillness. And may you know that your grief is seen, honoured, and held with care.
With warmth and remembrance,
The Park Memorial Family
