World Suicide Prevention Day

Standing Together in Hope & Care

Each September, communities across the world pause to recognize World Suicide Prevention Day. It is a time to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and remember that behind every statistic is a story, a family, and a life that mattered.

At Park Memorial, we walk alongside many families through their most difficult days. We know that the pain of losing a loved one to suicide ripples through circles of family, friends, workplaces, and entire communities. These losses can be overwhelming, complicated, and often wrapped in silence, guilt, and shame.

We believe that no one should ever feel alone in their struggle. Suicide prevention begins with compassion, conversation, and connection. When we open space for asking important questions and listening without judgment, we make it possible for someone to share their pain and - in that sharing - find hope.

If You Are Struggling

If you or someone you love is thinking about suicide, please know that help is available—day or night.

  • Call or text 988, the Suicide Crisis Helpline (available across Canada).
  • Reach out to local support services in Alberta, such as Canadian Mental Health Edmonton Region.
  • Speak with someone you trust: a friend, a counsellor, a spiritual leader, or a health professional.

If You Are Grieving

For those who have lost someone to suicide, grief can feel isolating. You may wrestle with questions, guilt, or anger, alongside deep sadness. Please know that your grief matters and deserves a place to be held with care. Our grief support programming, such as Art for the Grieving Heart and Men’s Grief Support gatherings, are open to the community and provide safe spaces to connect with others who are also on their own grief journey.

Walking Forward Together

Suicide Prevention Day reminds us that every life has value, and every person carries a story worth honoring. Let us continue to build a community where it is safe to reach out, safe to talk, and safe to hope.

Grief has no timeline, no rulebook, and no “right way” to move through it. At Park Memorial, our monthly grief-support programs — Art for the Grieving Heart and Men’s Grief Support* — were created to offer a safe, welcoming space for anyone navigating loss.

August 30th was marked as National Grief Awareness Day, and while we missed the official calendar date, we reflect on this truth: grief doesn’t live on a calendar. It doesn’t circle one day in August or only come up during anniversaries and holidays.

Last night marked the final gathering of our Men’s Grief Support program for the season*— and what a meaningful close it was. Over the past several months, this group has grown not only in numbers, but in connection, trust, and true community. To celebrate that growth, we decided to do something special: we hosted a di

My Dearest Daughter, as I write this letter, I can already feel the weight of my absence pressing upon you. There is so much I wish I could have told you, so many moments I wish I could have shared with you. But now, as you face the daunting task of being my Executor, I realize how much I have failed to prepare you for what lies ahead.

Being named the executor for a loved one is both an honour and a significant responsibility. As you step into this role, it is understandable to feel overwhelmed by the myriad of tasks and decisions that lie ahead. While the process can be complex and time-consuming, it is essential to approach it with warmth, empathy, and unwavering professionalism.
