National Funeral Director & Mortician Recognition Day

Celebrating our Staff Family & Our Profession

Today, on National Funeral Director and Mortician Recognition Day, I salute our entire funeral professionals’ team. To say that most people truly don’t understand the heart and soul that goes into the daily work of a dedicated funeral professional employee is an understatement.

Funeral professionals don’t receive enough praise or recognition for what they do. They serve a critical role in a community, yet consistently fade into the background of community/health/politics and more, while paying attention to a multitude of details and orchestrating everything to run smoothly for the family. They are the ducks who often have feet paddling furiously below the surface, but who look poised and in control on top of the water.

In honour of this day, I celebrate all the tasks that are done behind the scenes – often unseen and seamlessly to give the family being served the most meaningful farewell ceremony possible. I celebrate the men and women who consistently show empathy and care for the bereaved.

To our staff team: I appreciate all that you do for the families you serve and their loved ones, our communities, and for each other today and every day.

Last night marked the final gathering of our Men’s Grief Support program for the season*— and what a meaningful close it was. Over the past several months, this group has grown not only in numbers, but in connection, trust, and true community. To celebrate that growth, we decided to do something special: we hosted a di

My Dearest Daughter, as I write this letter, I can already feel the weight of my absence pressing upon you. There is so much I wish I could have told you, so many moments I wish I could have shared with you. But now, as you face the daunting task of being my Executor, I realize how much I have failed to prepare you for what lies ahead.

Being named the executor for a loved one is both an honour and a significant responsibility. As you step into this role, it is understandable to feel overwhelmed by the myriad of tasks and decisions that lie ahead. While the process can be complex and time-consuming, it is essential to approach it with warmth, empathy, and unwavering professionalism.
