Donations and Reflections At Pilgrims Hospice

Park Memorial • July 13, 2023

Dear Guests of Moments with Dr. Wolfelt Grief Support Seminars 2023,

As you know, the funds collected via tickets sold to our Caregivers’ session were to be donated to The Roozen Family Hospice Centre - Pilgrims Hospice. We delivered ‘your’ donation today, and it was accepted with gratitude…

While there, we visited The Reflection Room where guests and their families - past and present - can sit and reflect and remember. It’s an idyllic, soft space featuring natural light, comfy chairs, and a water feature.

On one of its walls are crisscrosses of twine to which are clipped messages of love, remembrance, grief, and - yes - sadness and ‘missing’ from family members to their loved ones. Some are carefully penned by children to their Grandma or Uncle… others are penned by the guests themselves, reflecting on their experience in facing the end of their own life.

We wanted to share the words penned on one of the messages on the wall, as it seemed a fitting thank you to each of our guests who attended Dr. Wolfelt’s seminar and allowed for the donation delivered today:

“It would be wonderful if we devoted as much training, experience, compassionate service, and resources to the end of life, as we do to the beginning. Pilgrims is doing an outstanding job in that regard.”

It is signed simply ‘P.’

My reflections... a hand written message

It is our hope that as our Park Memorial team continues serving bereaved families in our community, we, like Pilgrims Hospice, will do well our job of lending our experience and compassionate service to families walking the loss of a loved one.

August 30th was marked as National Grief Awareness Day, and while we missed the official calendar date, we reflect on this truth: grief doesn’t live on a calendar. It doesn’t circle one day in August or only come up during anniversaries and holidays.

Last night marked the final gathering of our Men’s Grief Support program for the season*— and what a meaningful close it was. Over the past several months, this group has grown not only in numbers, but in connection, trust, and true community. To celebrate that growth, we decided to do something special: we hosted a di

My Dearest Daughter, as I write this letter, I can already feel the weight of my absence pressing upon you. There is so much I wish I could have told you, so many moments I wish I could have shared with you. But now, as you face the daunting task of being my Executor, I realize how much I have failed to prepare you for what lies ahead.

Being named the executor for a loved one is both an honour and a significant responsibility. As you step into this role, it is understandable to feel overwhelmed by the myriad of tasks and decisions that lie ahead. While the process can be complex and time-consuming, it is essential to approach it with warmth, empathy, and unwavering professionalism.
