Consumer Choice and Readers’ Choice for Edmonton Funeral Home

Park Memorial • Dec 08, 2021

Based on the feedback of our community.

In 2010, The Consumer Choice Award organization in Edmonton began recognizing the category of funeral home excellence in their awards and recognition. Park Memorial was honoured to be selected as the winner in that inaugural year – and because of the trust of the families that we serve, we have continued to earn this award every year since. This status is awarded to businesses using independent research and big data taken from online and social media sources and is awarded on an annual basis.

Winning businesses are given the opportunity to participate in annual Consumers Choice marketing campaigns, which have allowed Park Memorial to share our brand story in our community in such a way that we have seen our audience and our impact grow and flourish.

In 2017, the category of funeral home excellence was also added to the Edmonton Journal Readers’ Choice Awards, and Park Memorial was the Gold winner in that category, and has continued to be recognized as such for six consecutive years. Last year’s award was especially meaningful, as its launch and announcement coincided with our Park Memorial 80th Anniversary.

For over 81 years, bereaved families across northern Alberta have continued to trust and find comfort in the services that Park Memorial delivers to each family who places their trust in us. We continue to be humbled by this trust and do our utmost to honour it with every piece of care and compassion that our staff family delivers every day.

If the positive side of social media has taught us anything, it’s that something pretty special happens when people connect through shared experiences. Whether they connect through a passion for Disney vacations, are avid gardeners, or – yes – even connect because of shared loss and grief – there is power in that shared connection.

A funeral service guest recently asked me if I actually enjoy my role as much as I seem to. I would imagine that this is a fairly common question: why do funeral professionals choose this profession? For me… it is the humble grace of being able to make someone’s hardest of days just a little lighter, while helping them honour the life and legacy of their loved one.

One of the many traditions of Indigenous culture that we as funeral professionals respect and appreciate is the tradition of drumming. There is something almost reverent at being present when a family honours their loved one with the moving tradition of drumming. The rhythm seems to reverberate through your body and soul as you listen to its solid beats…

Each of our Art for the Grieving Heart events begins with the group creating a craft piece with its roots in grief. Though the project is the same for all guests, each person gets to personalize theirs to their own liking and creativity. This month’s craft was no exception: customized candle tins.
