Obituary for Gai Lou Der ( Chow)

Print
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Gai Lou Chow (Der), on January 1, 2019 at the age of 94 years. She passed peacefully in her bed at her youngest daughter’s home.
Gai Lou came from Hoiping, Guangdong, China, in 1959, joining her husband to run the restaurant in Conquest, SK. As the children grew older, they moved to Saskatoon, SK, where they ran several successful restaurants. She was very devoted to her family and was an excellent cook, always cooking up a feast at each family gathering. After retirement, she and her husband enjoyed travelling to many places in the USA, Canada, Asia and China several times. She was always loving and wise; the guiding light in the family. She handled all matters with dignity and grace, even in her last days.
Gai Lou will be forever loved and remembered by her youngest daughter, Allena (Stephen) Hidasi; son-in-law, Jack Au; daughter-in-law, Juliet; granddaughter, Suzanna (Bob) Chan; grandsons, Anthony and Marcus; great-granddaughter, Lauren Chan; and extended family members and friends. Predeceased by her husband, Jack; son, Peter; and oldest daughter, Debbie.
Family and friends may pay their respects Wednesday, January 16 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Park Memorial Funeral Home, 9709 – 111 Avenue, Edmonton.
Funeral Service Thursday, January 17 at 1:30 p.m. at Park Memorial Chapel with interment in Westlawn Memorial Gardens.
