Obituary for William "Bill" Zurawell

William "Bill" Zurawell
It is with great sadness that the family of William “Bill” announces his passing on March 3, 2018.
Born July 3, 1930 in Vegreville, Alberta, William grew up on a farm in the New Kiew district where he met Natalka Luhowy. They married on August 14, 1952 and began their shared life together in nearby Two Hills.
From an early age William understood the value of hard work and began his journeyman welder career in Duvernay. Throughout his working life he forged lifelong friendships with many co-workers and took great pride in his learned technical skills.
Love of family and friends always came first but a close second was his passion for making music. His joy for entertaining was palpable and touched the hearts of all who witnessed his performances.
In his early teens, William began to play with various groups and eventually started his own band (The Rhumba Kings) in the late 1950s. With subtle name changes, he led this band for decades and it was a going concern well into the 1980s.
In 1965, William and Natalka purchased the Luhowy farm which was located between Two Hills and Lavoy. They farmed this land until 1972 when, with their four children they relocated to Edmonton. William’s trades career came to a close in 1985 with his retirement. This allowed him to focus full time on bringing smiles to the faces of everyone he encountered with his infectious sense of humour and giving spirit.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Natalka; children, Rose (Sean Seerey), Basil (Lin), Michael and Sandra (Chris Lewis); and grandchildren, Dylan (Kelsey), Nicholas (Kyra), Miles, Brittney, Katherine and Barry; and great-grandchild Emmett.
A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, March 11 at 6:00 p.m. at Park Memorial Chapel, 9709 – 111 Avenue, Edmonton. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Alberta would be greatly appreciated www.alzheimer.ab.ca
